After more than seven decades of serving the Peoria Metro Area and faced with an aging existing structure that carries more than 20,000 eastbound trips a day, the Illinois Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, conducted a comprehensive study that included extensive public comment opportunities, in determining the need to replace the McClugage Bridge. With the design phase of the replacement bridge completed, construction on the new structure began in Spring 2019.
This new structure will improve capacity, increase safety, reduce travel times and ensue additional multimodal access with bike/ped accommodations. The new McClugage Bridge will improve the traveling experience for everyone who uses the bridge.
